Whirlpool Dishwasher Recall 2010
The Maytag dishwasher recall, announced Thursday by Whirlpool Corp., aytag has recalled 1.7 million dishwashers that pose a fire hazard. The recall on Thursday was sparked by 12 reports of electrical failures in the appliances, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The 2010 Maytag dishwasher recall affects the following brands sold between February 2006 and April 2010 manufactured with white, black, bisque, silver and stainless steel front panels:
- Amana
- Maytag
- Jenn-Air
- Admiral
- Magic Chef
- Performa by Maytag
- Crosley (with plastic tubs)
These Maytag dishwashers were usually sold in department stores with prices ranging from $250 to $900. The brand of the dishwasher can be identified from the front.
Customers who own the affected models, should stop using them immediately and either unplug them or shut off the circuit breaker controlling them, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission said in a statement.
In the Maytag dishwashers recall announced Thursday, the company is offering affected customers a choice:
• A free, in-home repair of their recalled dishwasher.
• A $150 or $250 rebate to get a new Maytag dishwasher (only certain models qualify).
Which is the better deal? It depends on what you currently own and where you live.
Consumers loyal to the Maytag brand may recollect the 2007 dishwasher recall that - as outlined by the CPSC — affected 2.3 million dishwashers carrying the Maytag and Jenn-Air brand labels. The manufacturer in question was Maytag Corporation of Newton, Iowa.
