      GEEZ! That was AMAZING!
Why do black people COMPLETELY dominate at dancing?!

I’m showing this to everyone I know immediately.

      • Comment  by Danilova

I agree that Black people dominate at tap, but I’m guess you haven’t seen them doing any ballet.

        • Comment  by aahhhh!!!!!

          racist hahah!

          • Comment  by hurrr

            observations are not racist

          • Comment  by steve

maybe that is racist,..but you did’nt seem to notice black people completely dominating at dance…again racist..try thinking for yourself..I already have mtv and the media..ha-ha
you gotta love people for their differneces or pretend not to notice…otherwise racism is all thats left excepting pointing out only white racism…the most racist of all…you

          • Comment  by mej

how is loving someone’s race for their differences any less racist than hating someone’s race for their differences?

        • Comment  by rachel

are you kidding?!!! there are so many amazing black ballet dancers. where are you looking?

        • Comment  by Bigbootyballerina

          • Comment  by knobby

I love to see people winning arguments with facts!!! nice work!

        • Comment  by Susie

I have seen dozens and dozens of black ballet dancers in my lifetime, for god’s sake.

          What bigotry.

        • Comment  by DAT

          Racist and stupid.

        • Comment  by Andy

The rebuttal called racist because it wasn’t pro-black but in fact favors the Russian’s Indian’s, and yes the Chinese over Western Caucasians. Now had the respondent said Two stepping, or square dancing, discussed modern dance which is oft dominated by white females then maybe a case could be made for the racist wishing to make it about skin instead of skill.

          • Comment  by Rich Airchess

Russians and Indians don’t have an apostrophe. Grammar fail.

        • Comment  by Keith

actually we are very prominent in ballet, most famously Alvin Ailey dancers are commonly black

        • Comment  by velda

          Lauren Anderson

        • Comment  by Sean

For ballet, try the world famous harlem dance academy and the detroit windsors dance academy. both have and still do major ballet events

        • Comment  by soyshine

there are several African ballet dancers. =)

        • Comment  by tls

I’ve seen plenty of talented black ballerinas. I hope you’ll have the opportunity to very soon as well.

      • Comment  by anonymous

how do you know they’re black?

      • Comment  by Mega

        Did they both like it?

      • Comment  by bling

because they know they have huge wangs

        • Comment  by Andy

You saw the down the staircase part and still believe blacks have huge wangs?

      • Comment  by Andy

        The real racist statement!

    • Comment  by Jen

I never knew anyone who could do that many consecutive splits….they were amazing!

  2. Comment  by kit

    omg that was beyond amazing..

  3. Comment  by Clyde

    Brilliant
Just shows how sh*tty modern films are!

    • Comment  by ElStavros

and modern dancing; mtv get off the air!

      • Comment  by seymourplank

how the hell do they keep time while flying through the air, they time their landings to perfections, they weren’t eunuchs were they:)because when they landed doing the splits that looked mighty uncomfortable……

    • Comment  by agreed

pop culture films are s*** these days.

  4. Comment  by Katharine

Go to agree with Fred. That is the best dance scene I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot.

  5. Comment  by ben

    that was totally shopped

    • Comment  by jesus

your brain was shopped - Wal-Mart

    • Comment  by Breanna

how was that shopped??? it’s called tap dancing, it takes a lot of choreographing and practice but it can be done.

      • Comment  by DFTT

        successful troll is successful…

        • Comment  by Ryan

          ben you’re my new hero

          • Comment  by robbie

all hail ben, king of the successful trolls!

          • Comment  by Balls

            ben FTW!

    • Comment  by dude

I doubt it. People in the old days could do cool things too.

    • Comment  by Kathy

It was filmed in 1945, as I recall. I’m guessing “shopping” wasn’t around back then. They filmed these things live, so you only had one chance to get it right. Even more credit to the amazing performance of the Nicholas Brothers and all the other dancers from that era.

    • Comment  by kudos

You even got Jesus to respond!

  6. Comment  by Mary

I’d like to see someone top that! No time soon.

  7. Comment  by Nohbdy

Any routine with leapfrogging splits is a damn good routine in my book.

    • Comment  by Megan

      Agreed.

  8. Comment  by grenklet

WOW Amazing footwork those were the days

  9. Comment  by chilly

    Really ben?

  10. Comment  by zak

I agree with Ben I can tell by the pixels.

    • Comment  by dude

which pixels? you cant photoshop film unless some one painted the whole thing frame by frame.

      • Comment  by lol

        trolled again

  11. Comment  by Stiffy

Whoever says this is shopped are complete idiots. This is a scene from the movie Stormy Weather with Cab Calloway and Nicholas Brothers.
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7166448883120539209#

    • Comment  by Ben

      Stiffy….It was a joke.

      • Comment  by Balls

I’m still pretty sure it’s shopped–you need more credible sources.

  12. Comment  by Duston

If certain people would actually look it up instead of always saying its shopped.. we wouldnt have these problems. Besides, my grandmother has this on vhs still

    • Comment  by VKal

They used to shop VHS tapes too, before the interwebs. Look it up.

  13. Comment  by tanya

if the dancing movies put out by the movie industry today were that awesome then we would have a lot less “ghetto stomping”

    • Comment  by Bones

Where the hell do you see ghetto stomping? If it’s in there, these boys invented it. Not everything we have today comes from this generation. We build off of things.

      • Comment  by Breanna

she means the dancing we use today isn’t very good and that we should learn from our older generations. she wasn’t dissing these men.

  14. Comment  by Jordanm

    That….was amazing! Truly great.

  15. Comment  by Jordanm

This goes along great with “start me up” by the Rolling Stones! Try it out.

    • Comment  by La-a

      YOU ARE MY HERO.

    • Comment  by karly

      I love you.

    • Comment  by Jane

Dude, were you also the one that discovered the Wizard of Oz/DSOTM thing? You’re amazing.

      • Comment  by a Nick

Oh my god. How in the good christ did you ever figure that out? That’s in-friggin’-credible. The original blew my mind, and then this re-blew the wreckage. You seriously just justified the entire existence of the internet.

    • Comment  by Brandon

Holy Crap… you are right. That works a little too well I would say. Don’t know where I am going with that but definitely enjoy this dance and this parody of sorts.

  16. Comment  by Mike

I think the ‘ghetto stomping’ is shopped. lol This dancing requires skill, precision, and practice. No sell-out mainstream modern day bulls*** here

  17. Comment  by jaz

    Mind. Blown.
I don’t think I’ll see a dance number like that again in my life. Unless I replay this video.

  18. Comment  by Cibo

    Aaaaaahhh!!!!!! Amazing!!!

  19. Comment  by Leo

in addition to the argument against this being shopped…
these types of film were not edited through the use of computer technology back in those days… editors work on the actual film reel when editing

this is amazing deal with it… just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean its not possible

    • Comment  by Ian

He said it was shopped to get a reaction out of people. he knows its not shopped now stop arguing about it lol it was a joke

  20. Comment  by Beej

Wow…. just wow…. that blew my mind, I don’t think I can ever look at dance the same way again

  21. Comment  by BJW

We think they are still awesome after all these years. Wonder if they got paid a decent salary, and what happened to them in later years…

    • Comment  by Justice Angel

What African American EVER got anything that was fair; especially at that time-they were USED plain and simple and this is from an educated white woman.

      • Comment  by anon

        not that educated, apparently

      • Comment  by Andy

Don’t know their own king’s sold them into slavery, taking all they had before Lincoln and the Republican’s freed them. Before Dr. King, a Republican drummed up the support for the Republican’s to again stare down the Democrat KKK and pass historic civil rights laws that included the right to vote and right to the same schools and minimum wage etc.. And that from someone with an unbiased education based on history and not political doctrine.

      • Comment  by Andy

Note History grounded in fact shows it was the Republicans who fought for liberation and later equal rights and won against democrats who sought to use terrorist tactics under white hoods founding the KKK. The modern liberal though tries to make minorities believe Republicans are racist because we oppose special rights and payback legislation, welfare etc… but are still champions of equality, the same education, rules, and opportunity for all as equals.

        • Comment  by Llama

Politics have changed a lot since then. Republican and Democratic policies are both very different from back then. Modern politicians were not the politicians of the 1860’s. Just saying, just because someone calls themself by a certain party, doesn’t mean they follow all the beliefs of that party.

  22. Comment  by rob

    don’t feed the trolls!
    also, nice trolling guys.
also, that was absolutely spectacular. I’m stunned.

  23. Comment  by sriz

    that was absolutely amazing.

  24. Comment  by pocha

    Amazing ty

  25. Comment  by Ant

haha, people bite too easily, pretty sure the guy who said it was “shopped” was kidding. Get a sense of humour.
    Awesome routine.

  26. Comment  by Fred Astaire

My favorite dance number…followed by such an effective and powerful trolling thanks to a few graciously gullible commenters…

    today was a good day.

  27. Comment  by Catherine

Brilliant!! They just don’t make them like this anymore.

  28. Comment  by sydney

    that was incredible!

  29. Comment  by Bodkins

I’m afraid Ben is correct. It is ludicrous to think this is anything but Photoshopped. You doubters have clearly never seen The Matrix otherwise you’d know what was possible with a hard drive these days.
For a start both of those women would have sustained serious injury to the tinter if they’d actually landed those leaping splays.

    • Comment  by just me

just a little fyi… those are MEN

      • Comment  by Bodkins

You could be right about that- their hands do look a little on the large size. Although this only confirms the charlatanry. Repeated impacts of that nature would result in a fractured barse at the very least.

    • Comment  by dude

clearly you have no idea that they don’t use photoshop for those types of effects.

      • Comment  by Bodkins

The term was intended euphemistically. MS Paint was likely the prevalent industry tool at the time.

  30. Comment  by steve

here’s a link to their site, one brother has passed on, the other is still going it seems:
    http://www.nicholasbrothers.com/index.htm

  31. Comment  by Anon

It’s funny to see people fall for such obvious trolls. Derp this isn’t shopped derp derp.

  32. Comment  by Anon

yeah, if you look at the pixels near their crotches when they are landing the splits you can tell it was shopped to look like such.

    • Comment  by Bones

Um love, they didn’t know how to shop then.

      • Comment  by pandajuice

dude, people shopped all the time. haven’t you ever heard of bloomingdale’s? damn, me neither

    • Comment  by Breanna

pixels= lower quality video than we have now.
obviously there are pixels from transferring such old film to computer.

  33. Comment  by nastynate

back then there was actually talent involved in television

  34. Comment  by Mike

Wow!!!!! Is this the inspiration of the Cotton Club movie with Richard Gere, Diane Lane?

  35. Comment  by ken sorvari

I always loved that, it never gets old.

  36. Comment  by jessica

    in love

  37. Comment  by hippie27

hahahhaha shopped, people need to understand that anyone who says that anymore is clearly making fun of all the deuchbags who would ruin perfectly good fun with a statement like that, don’t take it too seriously lol

but this is just amazing, hit every note that band played with their feet!

  38. Comment  by Acrobat

The shopped comment was so someone being silly, it’s fine, I understood.

It is a brilliant dance number, but any man that can do the splits scares me… landing in the splits like that… well does anyone know if they procreated, I can’t imagine so…

    • Comment  by troll

I bet they procreated all the time dancing like that

  39. Comment  by Bill A

    Crazy good.

  40. Comment  by Grub

Hahaha. God people need to not be retarded and notice a troll.

  41. Comment  by Foreals

Anyone that hates on modern “ghetto stomping” is racist and can’t appreciate a different cultures dancing style. Only white bread cracker tap

    • Comment  by anon

this is also high-quality trolling, too bad the shopped guy got all the attention

  42. Comment  by James

that’s skill and talent rolled into one damn good performance.

  43. Comment  by Anon

@Foreals - Dunno if you noticed, but these guy aren’t ‘crackers’. Maybe you should look at that again and rethink whatever it was that was going through your mind.

That aside, to see that redone today with this ages’ twist to it could possibly be awesome.

    • Comment  by Anon

      Or absolutely horrid.

  44. Comment  by Rigorous pineapple

    photoshopped. totally.

  45. Comment  by jattie point

it’s always funny to see someone write shopped. almost every time i see someone respond who isn’t in on the joke

    • Comment  by jimbo

what joke? is it common knowledge that this is fake then?

  46. Comment  by Mmmyep

Amazing precision between the dancers and the band. Too bad talent like this comes so rarely.

Side note: does anyone else get a little worried about the state of the world when people fall for such obvious trolling all the time? That kind of gullibility can lead to all kinds of uh-oh.

  47. Comment  by himsaad714

did anyone else hear the mario underground theme at 1:20?

    • Comment  by Casey

YES, I’m so glad someone else noticed that!

  48. Comment  by Bawdybill

I saw this film a long time before “shop” of any kind was available. Believe me, it was real, no blue screens or cgi. These cats could dance and were in demand for any musical of the 30’s and 40’s whether all black or all white. Search Youtube for a bunch of other films they were in and even more incredible dancing. They appeared on many TV variety shows in the 50’s, including Ed Sullivan’s show.

    • Comment  by ThatCaliGirl

Best comment I’ve seen. While you are at it, look up the Daft Punk Dancing from that era. All they do these days is flop around. Amazing footwork.

      • Comment  by ThatCaliGirl

        …that was @bawdybill…

  49. Comment  by Searogue

Bravo to the Nicholas Brothers. It seems odd now that the audience should be so predominantly nonwhite for such a universal display of talented energy

  50. Comment  by Bill

what does black or white have to do with it? you people are so racist. i love lamp

  51. Comment  by ShmoozieShoes

Warning: every dance number seen after this will vastly disappoint you.

  52. Comment  by Hunto

Jesus christ that was sick good

  53. Comment  by Roohan

Truly amazing how the young people will disbelieve anything that seems out-of-the-ordinary and just throw around the phrase “that was shopped”. Sad…just sad. I understand where it comes from though, as there is a lot of ’shopping’ going on out there. However, all you really have to do is a little research before you start insulting or dismissing someone’s talent/hard work by calling it ’shopped’.

    • Comment  by Anon

      Keep feeding the trolls.
“The offensively clueless have a special place in our hearts - as objects of ridicule. We don’t like you, but we do love you.”

    • Comment  by ThatCaliGirl

@Roohan, we are the forgotten generation that appreciated this kind of performing. It hasn’t been passed on to the young people like it was passed on to us. Sad. they are missing so much.

  54. Comment  by Jenna

    I agree with Roohan.
    This was amazing.
I much rather live in those times where photoshop wasn’t invented, music didn’t suck, and people didn’t suck as much.

  55. Comment  by Jussi

Everyone who is getting pissed at the guy who said this was shopped is an idiot and you all got owned. You think someone really suspects a movie to be shopped?? That was good trolling there

  56. Comment  by Internets

Sweet fancy moses I have rarely seen such stupidity in comments, especially Roohan.

  57. Comment  by Tyler

I don’t know what’s better, the dance video or all the fail trolling. Lul.

  58. Comment  by Bracey

Of course it is shopped you a**hats, in them days they could barely walk let alone dance like that. Learn some history guys before making yourselves looks so dam dum!

  59. Comment  by Michael

Ok. All you folks who *think* this was “shopped”, why not give us a blow by blow on how this rasterized VIDEO was done in Photoshop. (well if you had no life, and you cry the call of IT WAS SHOPPED when folks < 30 and never really worked in a real job using Photoshop in a production environment.)

Ever heard of After Effects? And even then, why would anyone have time to do that, unless a producer offered a substantial money to do it because… ????

  60. Comment  by Ang

Great footwork. A piece of the music reminded me of the beginning to the fortress levels in the old mario games. I wish I could do leap frog splits.. -_-

  61. Comment  by Brittany

This clip was AMAZING, no argument there, but we do have *dancers* these days, guys, and they’ve built on this greatness. Ever seen Burn the Floor, a filmed dance concert? Incredible.

People act like great tap dancing only existed back then, and I really don’t know why.

  62. Comment  by Teri

Looks like it still is the best dance number ever filmed…..how amazing!!!

  63. Comment  by Derp

Comments are better than the vid

  64. Comment  by ded_serious

That was incredible, truly incredible. They just don’t troll like that anymore. It brings tears to my eyes to see such amazing trolling talent from past masters…

  66. Comment  by Megan

  67. Comment  by RubberSquid

This is not ’shopped’, how can you people be so retarded? They didn’t even have photoshop back then! My Grandmother watched this movie with me all the time, and you idiots just don’t understand that some unbelievable things are real! Get a life, seriously. Do you ever even leave your basements?

Next question, who thought that I seriously believed that Ben thought this was shopped? Lesson of the day: DON’T FEED THE TROLL FEEDERS.

    Also, cool dance.
