Photos of the Yazoo City Tornado are everywhere on the web now.
Yazoo City, Mississippi was the hardest hit of the many towns in the Magnolia State struck by a 3/4-mile wide tornado Saturday. Two Yazoo City citizens lost their lives, and more than a dozen others in west-central Mississippi were injured by the twister.

The tornado was a half mile to almost a mile wide. At least 30 houses and buildings were destroyed, power lines are down and some people are trapped. McArthur Straughter, the mayor of Yazoo City, Miss., said the local county coroner had confirmed deaths there. The pictures are devastating.

Mississippi official say the death toll has risen to nine. A church in Yazoo City was flattened and houses reduced to rubble.
Tornados have also been reported in the nearby states of Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama, with the severe weather reported to be moving eastwards.
Powerlines have been blown down and road are blocked by fallen trees, after a tornado almost a mile (1.6 km) wide, blew through the centre of the state.

Incredible pictures.

The storm moved across the Southeast with heavy rain and dark skies. The weather made it difficult for emergency teams to get into the area.
The US National Weather Service described the tornado as “an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation”.
It has put the entire state of Mississippi on tornado watch and warned people to look out for “golf ball and baseball sized hail” and winds exceeding 75 mph.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Greg Flynn said damage from the tornado was extensive and that officials were conducting a “massive response.”

The severe weather forced the postponement of a NASCAR auto race in Talladega, Ala., and halted cleanup work at the site of an offshore oil rig that exploded Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 kilometres from the Louisiana coast.
Yazoo City is about 370 kilometres north of New Orleans and was hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 after if made landfall.

Are all three of these photos from the Yazoo City storm? Some are questioning the authenticity of the middle picture that is making its way around Facebook.
