Unbelieveable… (no pun intended). Clearly she has a good grasp of the Christianity of Christmas - it’s about the materials. I wonder how many people muttered ‘Jesus!’ when they heard his mom.

Good luck kid - glad I don’t have your parents. Bravo for standing up to her for what you believe in!

like… there is no god. hello!

  4. Comment  by Robert Tobin

Nothing would surprise me in the United CHRISTIAN States of America. 46% of Americans believe the World was “created” by “god” in the year 4004 BCE On the 3rd. October at 9:00 AM. “Jesus Bloody Christ” they are so thick.

    RELIGION POISONS EVERYTHING.

you are a abomination, Jesus teaches love and to honor your father and your mother and to obey the commandments and atheism promotes hatred, suicide, homosexuality, killing, stealing, depression.

      • Comment  by frackjesus

…and you are ignorant. Nothing more needs to be said.

      • Comment  by What!

Where did you read that atheism promotes theses horrible things. Atheism is not a cult. It is simply the absence of belief in a deity. Try reading your Bible. You will find that it is this text that promotes hatred and killing. As a matter of fact the Bible states that if a child does not believe then he or she should be killed. Is this what you believe?

        • Comment  by lol, k

and Atheism is simply a fancy term for hate crimes protected by the Federal Goverment.

          Ah, sweet hypocrisy.

Can’t tell if you’re joking or serious because what you have written makes no sense

      • Comment  by lmao

Atheism doesn’t “promote” anything other than clear thinking. I think you’re confused (and delusional, of course). Nothing promotes killing better than religion. I can make my statements calmly, and with confidence, unlike a person trying to defend a belief in ancient myths.

        • Comment  by Jo Blow

I would have to agree, well put

      • Comment  by Proffesor Logic

Please elaborate on how Atheism promotes hatred, suicide, homosexuality, killing, stealing, and depression. Atheism promotes reason and thinking logically. You presume that everything that goes against your beliefs is evil. You have been brainwashed long enough!

      • Comment  by Love and Live Life

That’s the most ignorant thing I ever heard. It amazes me how a one sided Christianity can be and how people use it as a tool and a means for discipline and church to satisfy ones emptiness and insecurities about death. Get a grip retard, were entitled to our own decision making and which path one chooses.

      • Comment  by theatheist

as far as I know, atheism never brought about a war. What about religion and christianity? Who’s promoting hatred, killing, stealing and depression mr.good morals and principles?

And just a small reminder, homosexuality is no sin, If it is, then by right half if not three quarters of all priests around the world should be excommunicated.

        • Comment  by LovingMy Saviour

FYI= HOMOSEXUAILITY IS A SIN!!! AND NO THEY WOULD NOT BE EXCOMMUNICATED B/C OF PPL LIKE YOU THAT CONDONE IT..FURTHERMORE…EVERY knee WILL bow and EVERY tongue SHALL confess!! NOT eveyone EXCEPT this one or that one BUT EVERY ONE!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL

I am a Christian, and this sort of behavior appalls me.

Yes, the bible says that “a man who lies with another man is a sinner” however, it also says that a woman who is not a virgin at the time of marriage is to be stoned. Are you going to come kill me LovingMy Saviour?

It hurts me to know that fanatic, ignorant people like you give my religion a bad name. Go take a long look at your actions.

          • Comment  by Bullwinkle for president!

Homosexuality is a sin…. but male priests molesting young boys is just, well, divine. Believe what you want to, and then shut up.

I know what I believe in, but it is just that, a belief. No one has all the answers.

FYI — You and I are monkeys, get over it.

      • Comment  by yale grad

Atheism promotes homosexuality? Hun, you’re reading the wrong textbooks there. While athiests tend to be more accepting of the GLBT community, they certainly are not going out of their way to encourage heterosexuals to become gay (that would be pointless). I’d recommend travel and a good dose of empathy. And I can only pray that someday God will give you the strength to overcome your close-minded beliefs.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

      • Comment  by Jeanne

How does atheism promote any of the things you mentioned? It’s pretty sad that you need a god to honor your parents and behave like a decent person. Some of us do it out of love AND without the need to invent a magical being who will smite us into hell if we don’t as he supposedly says.

      • Comment  by Technomancer

Yeah, that’s why the most atheistic countries in the world have the lowest crime rate, the highest standards of living, the highest ratio of educated people, and the highest sense of happiness among their population.

      • Comment  by Dearheavens

Holy cow, way to give us a bad name, “jesus4life.” Atheism does not promote homosexuality, killing, etc., but most of all it does not promote DEPRESSION. I hope you are a aware that depression is a clinical disease, which I, a Christian mind you, have suffered from for two years. It involves serotonin uptake and not a lack of belief in God, I assure you. Please, do a little research. And for the love of the God we both believe in, please stop being the poster child for ignorant Christian idiots.

        • Comment  by well put

Personally, I don’t believe in god myself, but I’m certainly not going to push my “non-beliefs” on anyone else. I think Christianity as a whole has some well-based morals and good intentions but the dumbest dogs seem to have the loudest bark and its earning the christian community a bad reputation.

        • Comment  by Ash

I’m happy to say that atheism does not promote depression (whatever that means). A common refrain you will hear from the newly deconverted is the joyful sense of liberation they feel after letting go of faith in God. But one thing does tend to be true…there is a strong correlation between happiness and community belonging, and believers frequently have access to communities while atheists frequently do not. Therefore, religious folks have more access to like-minded community than non-believers. Fortunately, this is beginning to change. But there is absolutely no evidence that a lack of belief in gods in itself promotes depression…considering that atheistic countries are also the most happy (e.g. Finland), there is evidence to the contrary.

        • Comment  by Joan Denoo

Perhaps being a Christian creates the conditions that produce depression. If a person believes he/she is to yield to a higher authority, turn the other cheek when verbally or physically assaulted, obey someone or some external authority,
serve others, put oneself last, depend on external power, deny personal attributes such as homosexuality or femininity or masculinity, endure pain and suffering, emotionally or physically during life, hope for a better life after death, then conditions for depression exist.

By the way, name calling weakens one’s sense of power.

      • Comment  by OMG (pun intended)

        you’re an idiot!

      • Comment  by Dan

Wrong. Atheists are good because it’s the logical thing to do. We have no fear of hell and no hope of heaven. Christians need a God the threaten the hell out of them.

      • Comment  by Cora

Right. You’re a double victim; of abusive parents that taught you to believe in the supernatural instead of how to think critically, and of a culture so frightened by the absence of their Jesus fetish that they demonize atheists. Incidentally, prisoners in America identify as over 80% Christian and 2% atheist. In France, 75% of prisoners are Muslim.

But Christmas isn’t about gifts..its about family. Besides god doesn’t exist because he’s not there. And Also in the bible it discusses how if a women is not a virgin when she is married she is then executed. So you tell me, Jesus seems to be a bit of a sexist..Hence why He’s a f***** and I don’t believe in him. ^^

        what’s wrong with homosexuality?
        person+person=love!
and don’t tell me it isn’t natural! zebras, giraffes, cats, dolphins, chimpanzees and several other animals have homosexual relationships, and get this,
        HUMANS ARE ANIMALS!
also atheism does not promote hatred, killing, suicide or stealing.
        prove it.

      • Comment  by ..|.

Are you saying that the only thing that is stopping you from killing, stealing, and committing suicide are your belief in a wizard that created the world, and that if you do this, you will be punished?

    • Comment  by DBMAN

Yes. This is an example of a crazy religious person. Not all are like this. You are very ignorant to make such an outlandish comment… “religion poisons everything”. You have a lot to learn.

  5. Comment  by Haha.

I like how the mother switches tactics at the end, threatening to take away presents at Christmastime. Because, you know, Christmas is all about presents and whether or not you get any.

    • Comment  by wow

did everybody else miss that? who cares about that ignorant person? did you hear her mouth? wonder if she would say that in her church? real christian.

      • Comment  by Jesus

Totally agree. What a hypocrite. She is not a real Christian with that gutter mouth. Here is what Jesus says about swearing in Matthew 5:34 - 37:

“But I tell you, Do not swear at all; either by heaven, for it is God’s throne or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

Again we are told that swearing is wrong in James 5:12:

“Above all, y brothers, do not swear, not by heaven or earth or by anything else. Let your ‘Yes’ be yes, and your ‘No,’ no, or you will be condemned.”

So the Bible says on more than one occasion that we should not swear and that our “Yes” should be yes and our “No” should be no.

  7. Comment  by ltf

Excellent move kid. You should stand up for your beliefs, especially those that do not obfuscate your intellect; after all, religious creed do that.

    Keep it up.

  8. Comment  by autonomist

I hope that kid knows he’s not alone. my mom cried when I told her, but what is better, being honest with the people you love or lying to them your whole life to keep them happy.

  9. Comment  by Ursula

And bringing up being confirmed in front of the bishop. That’s done when you’re young and in a group. Most kids would have a hard time telling their parents, and the group being confirmed that they are refusing. I was confirmed too at the age of 13 but by my late teens I knew I disagreed too much with the church to continue.

Stick with it. You’ll be ok.

    • Comment  by Ben

When I went through confirmation, I told the minister running it that I could not recite the oath in front of the congregation because I did not fully believe. She said it was okay to lie, because “God will understand.”

  10. Comment  by jesus4life

EVOLUTION/ATHEISM IS A CULT TO LEAD THE MASSES AWAY FROM THE TRUTH TO A LIE AND CAUSE CHAOS AND PROBLEMS. Jesus died on the cross and was witnessed by thousands of people and today’s generations blaspheme god and mock Jesus. this is a sign that we are indeed leaving in the last days.

        • Comment  by Alessandro

Nevertheless, the fact that you atheists are facing opponents that happen to be more ignorant that one can possibly bear, doesn’t imply anything about the validity of your belief. Seen from the vantage point of an outsider, this whole video+debate shows clearly how primitive is reasoning in America. From both sides, both blatantly wrong and unable to think outside of the box.
But, with a thorough analysis of the issues at stake, one can finally get to understand that it’s the atheists who are wrong, even though most christians don’t get their facts straight about what is Christianity, and are unprepared to explain the ideas they have accepted. You can’t expect this complex analysis to be performed in a random reply post, in a few lines. Then, in your superficial shallow world, you can declare victory. And continue with your adult life, while staying put as a rebellious clueless teenager in matters of faith.

    • Comment  by lmao

Well, of course we can’t make you believe in evolution, since religious people never evolve beyond the dark ages. If you could reason with religious people, there would be no more religious people. Sorry, but you’re seriously delusional, and in desperate need of psychological help.

      • Comment  by Alessandro

You live in a tiny world full of prejudices. I’ve never ever encountered IRL someone not believing in evolution. What does this tell you?
Maybe that what you misconstrue as representative of “religious people” are just a bunch of Texans and what have you?

    • Comment  by Melanie

do not be fooled you are perfectly innocent, for God also said Judge not or you shall be judged! you should concentrate on your own path in life spreading peace instead of criticism.. when people speak of God, it is the listener that then decides if the person speaking resembles what they themselves know him to be. and criticism is not any resemblance to God. hate is not God. its ok to be angry, but hold your tongue for it is the serpent who speaks. and do not be fooled that God is not in peoples hearts for most of the population. they are just confused when a peaceful loving God is not seen in His followers.

I consider myself a practicing Christian and I don’t think atheism promotes the things others posters have said above. True Christian belief (not the kind that most Christians practice) is about grace and a person’s freedoms to accept or reject the idea of a deity. The God I know doesn’t coerce, but operates out of a fund of goodness called love, creativity, care, and justice.

This mom is exactly the reason why so many Christians hide their beliefs…we are too embarassed to be connected with this kind of behavior. I do have to admit that I don’t encounter many atheists who are this militant, so perhaps the general behavior of atheists is of higher caliber than the behavior of most Christians? If my kid came home and said they no longer believed in existence of God, I’d give them lots of room to think about it, talk it through, and love ‘em just the same. That’s my job.

  30. Comment  by mei

Religion is pretty much a form of psychosis, a mass addiction to one’s own emotions. It also usually tends to tell you to stop thinking for yourself, because thinking disagreeing thoughts means God will spank you. The looming threat of Hell is an evil threat that cuts to the bone. It’s a very nasty philosophical trap, one which I don’t doubt was necessary once but has seen its time now. I tried it twice, but had to drop it from sheer inconsistency. As Galileo said, I can’t believe God would give us a brain and then tell us not to use it, nor do I think he would dump us in some half-s*** situation and tell us we’re screwed if we don’t shape up and live up to expectations - and that with mind, body and soul WITH LIMITATIONS that He created in the first place. By all accounts he’s a vengeful one who clamps down on any opposition to His will with the threat of hell. What a scary paradigm to have to live in! Glad I don’t. It reeks on all sides of being created by humans in the first place - that makes a LOT more sense.

But they can’t really help it. A life of indoctrination is hard to let go, and in the US the social exorcism of refusing church is immense, especially in the bible belt. It takes brains to think for yourself and balls to stand up for the evolution of your mind. Kudos to those who manage it, and put others on the path to real freedom. I personally still believe, but the belief is my own and is more a series of possibilities than a firm belief - we may have a Creator, we may just be in a fully immersive 11D computer game, might be a Matrix situation, etc etc etc. But I’m pretty sure that we chose this ourselves - no decent God would stoop so low. And if God isn’t decent, well then he’s nobody I want to know anyway and I’ll just have to see how it works out after this life. Onwards!

      • Comment  by mavericky

The vast majority of atheists can also be classified as agnostic. One is about belief and the other is about knowledge.

My mother is super Catholic, but when I was in jr high I told her I did not feel I could in good faith be confirmed because I could not agree with everything I would have to espouse. In the coolest move she’s ever made my Mom was completely okay with it and said she’d rather me not do it than go through with a sacrament out of rote obligation. I still have never been confirmed but am at peace with my spiritual path.

    (apologies for spelling.)

People, I have had enough of just sitting down with my mouth shut. These religious people have too much to answer for. We as atheists or what ever “non-belief” system you call yourself, need to band together. We need to stop the lies, the fear, the killing and hatred.

I don’t believe in God, but I hang out with allot of God fearing people. Even my girlfriend is the daughter of a pastor. But I would class myself as one of the more moral people in our group. I am always there by their side, though any problems. I don’t cheat (religious ex did), steal, murder, or generally lie (unless its “Does my bum..” question). Because I have to live with my faults! I cant go to church on Sunday and ask for forgiveness. So the weight or embarrassment of things i did when i was younger stay with me and I learn from them.

Talk to your friends and gather them together, watch the first 25 mins of zeitgeist online. Although Don’t treat that as fact either. Just begin questioning. One of the big questions I have at the moment, is why doesn’t the church help in a larger way for charity? Why do they seem to have so much money, and live so brazenly, when people are starving, oil is spilling, hurricanes are blowing…..wait wait I just thought, if these things are acts of God, why dont Gods people pay for them? Or at least help? Any way, I digress, all i want to say is, dont be scared to speak out, disagree, have an opinion, become well versed in the religious texts, I have studied them for 25 odd years now. So I can get right under their skin. You should try too.

I don’t believe that poor mum is a follower of Jesus. Her behavior is not consistant with someone who loves and follows the Lord Jesus. I have a personal relationship with Jesus and He has changed my life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. He has given me the faith to believe in Him and i have experienced His life changing power in my life. I can testify to the fact that God exists, rules and reigns. He is sovereign and mighty and Has shown Himself to be so good and so faithful in my life and in many others i know. Try to attend a church that really teaches you from the Bible, you may be surprised to hear what God really says in His Word to you. I attend Harvest Bible Chapel - look them up, read over the doctrine, see if there is one in your area - you will be blessed! “For i am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes….” “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and thier foolish hearts were darkened.” Romans 1:16 and 18-21. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1 Spend a little time in nature, cry out to the Lord to reveal Himself to you. He is a brilliant creator and we are without excuse for not believing in God - He has shown us He exists and is masterful by what He has created for us to enjoy! You are so precious to Him - He wants you to be His child and He has made a way through His Son Jesus.

I love the amount of philosophical and moral ignorance those who oppose the theistic ideology possess. It’s true that this woman did not have the right approach to react to her son like this. However, we can’t just begin to assume that this woman sums up the entire Christian ideology. There are theists who occupy the greatest offices in the academies such as Oxford and Cambridge and who know how to enact the Christian belief system and its values and fundamentals. I warn those of you who are quick to judge the Christian people and slow to judge your own beliefs, close-minded thinking is not limited to religion, or any knowledge involving God, it can involve any ideology, and it can be provoked by any moral inclination to oppose someone’s belief system.

Christians should really look up the origins of their religion before blindly following it.

I had to go to church 3 times a week for 16 years before I told my mom I didn’t believe in god. She flipped nuts, grounded me, screamed bible verses at me and I still had to go to church. At the end of every sermon the preacher would go on a little rant about how everyone needed to be baptized to save their souls from eternal torture, while glaring at me. It gets better as you get older though, so hold on and try not to crack wise about jesus in front of you parents in the meantime.

Side note, Christmas originated as a pagan holiday and was prohibited by the Vatican for well over a century before it was declared a Christian holiday.

I for one would like to say that I promote homosexuality to as many men as I can. Being a heterosexual man that though spiritual yet not believe in organized religion I do believe in the value of making more people into homosexuals. It’s simple, the more men who are homo the less competition I have with the ladies. Go homos!

And since I put it out there, I would also like to say that I promote obesity as well as that also gives me quite an edge since I am fit. Thank you.

One religious kid in my grade believes that his god wants us to kill all atheists, gays, jews, muslims, buddhist, sikhs, hindu, any other religion beside christianity pretty much, anyone who doesnt hate gays, any women who want an abortion. He is totally nuts but around here there are ALOT that share his beliefs. He not only believes his god wants them dead but not hating them is a sin. Yeah he actually said tolerance is a sin. 32 post argument on myspace later and I think he’s backing down a bit but still wont change his veiwpoint. I’m agnostic but extremely tolerant of everything pretty much but some people are just too annoying.

She should definitely kill the nonbeliever. He should have known better than to have an opinion at his age. Kids these days think they know it all. She really put him in his place, and I’m sure he has seen the light by now. Palin for President!

Religion has promoted some terrible ideas. the thing about atheism is once people realize they can follow the satanic golden rule, do what thou will that’s what they end up doing all to often. Whatever your beliefs or not the problem is not religion vs. non-religion, it’s rational people like the boy against nuts like his mom.
