Actually, several studies done on babies have shown that tolerance is not a natural response to someone different. Babies preferred pictures of people who looked like them and generally rejected pictures of people who weren’t like them and their parents.
That doesn’t necessarily imply racism though. Babies and children simply strive for comfort, and obviously feel more comfortable around people that look just like them, aka their parents. racism implies hatred, whereas the discrimination in that article just shows what you probably already know, we strive for comfort, and at a young age we feel most comfortable with our parents, and therefore people who look like them. racism comes later, and is usually a product of environment.
actually, some of the questions used in the study can in fact show racist tendencies. “How many black people are dishonest?” is an actual question. and racism doesn’t require hatred, it just requires discrimination based on skin color or race.

HAHA soo CUTE!
I don’t get the title, it is that little girl a different race?
It is true that humans like what is familiar to them. If all races are familiar than they will feel comfortable with every race.
That is a Malaysian advert sponsored by their massive petroleum company Petronas. Malaysia comprises two very distinct ethnic groups, Chinese and the indigenous Malay.
They have not historically got along too well with Malays believing that the Chinese have all the money and the best jobs etc and that they are interlopers. There have been race riots there in the past.
The little Boy is Chinese and the little girl is Malay.
“Babies” show “intolerance” toward people who “don’t look like them”? What age “babies” are you talking about? My family is what you would call “bi-racial”, and, because of my husband’s sports participation, we raised out children around a variety of different people - white, brown, yellow, red, dark brown - and NEVER ONCE did any of our 3 kids show an “intolerance” for anyone they were familiar with. Think about it.
Exactly! As another poster says they (the babies) may strive for the comfort of those that look like their parents, but the hatred and intolerance of racism comes much later, when they start to see the political aspects and review history. If we all grow up with the idea that color, religion and any other difference should only be celebrated then the whole world would be a better place. Difference is one of the spices of life, and therefore we should cherish it and cultivate it.
well that means that they are familiar w/ all races and therefor, their comfort zone is much larger than one raised in a more uni-racial community, where other races are more foreign and alien to a very young child
Well using that study as basis, what about children from a biracial background, children who have characteristics of both parents? Do they have a preference for a specific parent or what?
Humans are social creatures that naturally form groups. The only real question is how large the group what will be the group delineator. Researchers have taken groups of children that represent a variety of different cultures, dressed them randomly in either red or green t-shirts and set them loose upon a playground in a number of different ratios. Within a few hours and without fail, the children have organized themselves into groups based upon the color of their shirts and developed negative opinions of the other group. Red t-shirt people are smarter, better looking, nicer, more fun, fairer, ect. What I haven’t seen studied is the effect of multi-racial families upon a childs tolerance of diversity.
lol @ “I don’t want the whole world to know!”

And which studies were those?
Your argument is a weasel one my friend.
Anyone who’s ever taken a psychology course has learned about what DragonXero is talking about. Here’s an article that you should read up on:

So now you know.
Thanks Matt I wouldn’t have understood that otherwise. Those children were awesome.
How can you, anyone, not fall in love with that boy, my heart is full.
Retarted
As is your spelling.
Maybe he just wants to re-tart something like a lemon he has been sucking on?

Race doesn’t matter when we are young so why does it matter when we are older?
when they carry knives
i wish the whole world was like that

Oh my gosh that boy is adorable…
Epic Fail
