No, you are the one who is retarded. This is totally ’shopped. I can tell by the pixels, and having seen quite a few ’shops in my day.

Seriously, when will people get that the photoshop thing is an ongoing joke? Frickin’ idiots.

        • Comment  by Stevo

Maybe they’ve been in a coma for the last 15 years and are new to the internetz?

        • Comment  by Moji takes self seriously

Hopefully never. It’s a clear sign of over consumption of the internets, and those people are to be avoided. They make rude house guests.

        • Comment  by Shawnuts

it’s not photoshopped you ****** retard. Try watching the discovery channel. ****. The oarfish is a REAL animal.

Complete fail of the ’shopper. Pause at 2:13: clearly shopped. Leave the video verification to the experts. Thanks.

          • Comment  by Interwebs Moderator

asdgfag - What are you? some sort of nube? Read the freaking interwebs. The pixels are clearly off cause the editors didn’t think it looked good enough. They shopped the junk out of it. Added like ten pounds and 2 inches to everything. Even made a mermaid. Recognize.

        • Comment  by Yaaaaawn!!

its been ongoing so long now its no longer a joke

          • Comment  by LOL!

    • Comment  by Jo Blow

Oarfish are large, greatly elongated, pelagic Lampriform fishes comprising the small family Regalecidae. Found in all temperate to tropical oceans yet rarely seen, the oarfish family contains four species in two genera. One of these, the king of herrings (Regalecus glesne), is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bony fish alive, at up to 17 metres (56 ft) in length.

  5. Comment  by God Thinks...

Yomamma is a child and a fool. It clearly says “a deep sea fish that is a likely inspiration for the sea serpent myth.” If they can’t take the time to read this, perhaps they should sit their immature rear down in the corner so that the adults may continue talking in peace. On a more positive note, interesting video! Very interesting, and I can see where the concept of “Sea Serpent” came from.

    • Comment  by Billy

Yomama’s probably just pointing out that the “Rare Footage of Huge Sea Serpent” title is misleading.

  6. Comment  by dad

holy f*ck. so many that’s what she said jokes

      hahahahhahaha you rock

  8. Comment  by Sage

It’s an Oarfish. They’re rare, deep-sea fish that are completely harmless.

Also, Ash, that’s the fish that inspired the pokemon character Milotic, not Gyarados.

  9. Comment  by Nena

sh*t if i saw that thing out in the middle of the ocean after days on the water and probably contracting scurvy id be terrified too

  10. Comment  by anonymous

i understand that it may have been dying but why did they have it tied up like that? why couldnt they just leave it in peace??

    • Comment  by Cari

I agree, it makes me so mad that people can’t just leave something incredible looking alone.

      • Comment  by Martin

Yes Cari, I agree, girls never seem to leave me alone :)

      • Comment  by Chazzed

Because there’s not actually anything there…it’s a fake. Definitely shopped.

  11. Comment  by jenn

and the oarfish is not the longest fish in the ocean, the whale shark is at 12m/ 41 ft long

    • Comment  by Adama

They said fish not shark. So yes, it is the longest fish in the ocean.

      • Comment  by Taylor

        Sharks are fish.

      • Comment  by Alex

The whale shark IS a fish, you idiot.

        • Comment  by Kim

It’s the longest bony fish, sharks are fish but they’re in the cartilaginous fish category

    • Comment  by Alice

Yes the Oarfish is the longest fish in the ocean. As though the Whale Shark can grow to 12m/41ft long the Oarfish can grow to 17m/56ft long.

  12. Comment  by your mom

why would they tie it up?? Thats just f***** up

    • Comment  by bradley

it got caught in there net. they didn’t just go tie it up

  13. Comment  by Nay

What i do wonder is if they set it free, and if it was able to go on its way and live. It’s a real shame to think that it didn’t make it…

    • Comment  by Yoshi

They only come to the shore to die, he wasn’t going to make any sort of magical recovery or anything, lol.

  14. Comment  by oceanographer

    It’s an eel dumasses….seriously?…it’s a ****ing eel.

  15. Comment  by snapp

haha u guys are ****** stupid its an ore fish that came to die do your research

  16. Comment  by an ACTUAL marine biologist.

That is not an eel, nor is it photoshopped. It actually came up to lay it’s eggs, which usually kills it. The oarfish swims vertically deep in the ocean, since it’s body is so frail, it can hardly support it’s length. When it comes to the surface to lay it’s eggs, it usually snaps in half from lack of support. All it’s eggs float out and hug the shoreline until they hatch. Thank you.

    • Comment  by liz

Why is the internet full of so many f**kin’ idiots…it surprises me that they even have basic computer skills.

I was taught early in life that if I didn’t know anything about a subject to keep my damn mouth shut. It was an incentive to study harder and has served me well for over 70 years !

This “Oarfish” could be a joke - or - it could be real. Why am I even commenting on this?… correction… This is my last Blog experience. Thank you and everybody go outside, into the open world, and meet some actual people. See their faces and talk about my blog. It’ll do you some good.

  26. Comment  by johnnny44

I be damned. If it were photoshopped it was done pretty darn well. I would like to learn more about the photoshop more so I can photshop my #ick to make it as long as that oarfish. That would be so cool!

  27. Comment  by oli

these guys are stupid to take this fish out of the sea!
this species is very rare! but apparently these people don’t care, they are hunters (an other species of evolution!)!!! yeaaaaah!!!

  28. Comment  by BReTT

To all the idiots who think this is photoshopped
    Dunning–Kruger effect
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which “people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it.” The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. This leads to the perverse situation in which less competent people rate their own ability higher than more competent people. It also explains why actual competence may weaken self-confidence: because competent individuals falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. “Thus, the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others.”
“In the modern world the stupid are co cksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.”

  30. Comment  by lauren

it’s an oarfish and they are not rare.
they are just not seen often.
also, these people are not taking it out of the water, when oarfish are about to die they like to beach themselves.

  31. Comment  by Wow

You think you’re all ****** genius’s don’t you? “I can tell by the pixels, the reflections are wrong.” Blah, blah, blah. Ever think that just maybe, it’s not a very good video camera? That it has a low resolution or whatever so it gets pixely or something? What has the world come to when everyone assumes everything is fake? Idiots.

    • Comment  by uhhh

      they were f****** kidding.

    everybody got trolled!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Government cover-up for a sea serpent harvesting project. Just like their cover-ups for UFO’s and Area 51. It’s very clearly shopped, the reflections, the shadows, and the lighting is all wrong. If you pause at 2:13, you can clearly discern this.

  33. Comment  by anon

there is no 2:13 its a minute 43 seconds long noob

  34. Comment  by melissa

wow that actually looks like a giant version of a fish I found on the beach a few years ago. it’s stupid to think it would get that big though.

  35. Comment  by KDC

    That’s not Photoshoped, it’s GiMP’ed. They’re using Open Source Software. :D

  36. Comment  by Micah

Its clearly not a fake. Do a bit of research. Cool footage, but feel bad for the thing.

  37. Comment  by hooch

the funny thing, is that this is NOT photoshopped. They have documents on them, and have even seen a show on discovery about these fish. they have been spotted before, even pictures. so before ya’ll think something is photoshopped, do your homework, because this fish is very real.

  38. Comment  by I photoshopped myself!

All of these comments are photoshopped!
